You recently purchased some brand new window privacy film, but you haven't yet gotten around to installing it. You've never installed window privacy film before, and you're not sure whether the manufacturer of the film supplied you with instructions on how to do it. In case the manufacturer did not give you instructions, below I will outline a general procedure that you can use to properly install your new window film, so that you can enjoy all of the benefits that it has to offer.

Clean Your Windows

The first thing that you will need to do before you install any window film is to clean your windows. If you try to install window film on a dirty window, then the film might not adhere to it. To clean your windows, simply apply a soapy water solution to the windows and scrub with a cloth. Or, you can use a commercial glass cleaner.

Surface Preparation

Once your windows have been cleaned, you need to do a little bit more surface preparation. Put some of that soapy water solution into a squirt bottle and spray the window down with it. This will help you move the film around a bit when you get it up on the window so that you can center it just right.

Cut And Measure

Now, you need to measure your windows and cut your window privacy film to the appropriate size. It's always best to cut the film a bit big, as you can always trim off any excess material once you get the film on the window. When you cut the film, make sure that you do it on the side of the backing paper.

Applying The Film

Now, you need to peel the film away from its backing paper and position it on the window. Make sure that the film is centered on the window, with the excess material evenly distributed around the window. Flatten the film as you apply it with the side of your hand in order to remove any air bubbles.

Finish Off Those Air Bubbles

Once you have the film where you want it, you need to work harder to eliminate any smaller air bubbles that might still be there. Start by wetting down the surface of the film. Flatten the film with a squeegee, starting at the center of the window and working out toward the edges and corners. The squeegee should come with the film kit when you buy it. If you are having difficulties with the film peeling off in the corners, then you can heat the film with a hairdryer that will make it more tacky and pliable. Just be careful not to overheat the film.

Now, you have a general procedure that you can use to successfully install that window privacy film. For more information about window privacy film, as well as other topics like high density foam insulation and garage floor covering, visit allthingsplastic.net.
