Ceiling register and floor register - What is the difference? When people buy a house or get one constructed they rarely think about registers also called vents. You’ll be surprised to know how much difference the register can make in heating and cooling aspects of your house. Register is something which should be given importance. Positioning of HVAC vents or registers should be carefully sorted out.

The basic functioning and purpose of both floor and ceiling register is the same. But what affects their cooling are some external factors. Basing on these external factors you should determine your choice. Climate is the first thing to consider.

If you live in a climate which is warm, the ceiling register should be given preference. The concepts which are behind this choice were probably taught to you in school. The cool air stays low and therefore when ceiling registers will distribute cool air, the gravity will come into play and cool air will be sent down till the floors of your house.

If you inverse the climate, the above mentioned scenario becomes true for floor register. In colder climates the heated air or warm air will rise from the floor and make your house warm.

So the choice seems very easy. But sometimes people still get it wrong. The choice becomes painfully difficult when the houses in the moderate climates need vents. In that case, it is often over hard to choose between ceiling and floor register and find a proper place for them.

In order to make this difficult choice simpler, we will look at what are the determining factors for either registers.

Determining factors for ceiling register

Ceiling registers on average, are suitable for most homes. The first thing to look at while considering ceiling register is the height of home ceilings. If the ceilings are high, it will take longer for the cold air to come down and have desirable affect.

The one aesthetical drawback of ceiling registers is that people find them unattractive. Many argue that these vents take away the entire look of a room. It may have stood true sometime ago when there little choices regarding shapes and colors, now days a house owner can choose from a variety of designs.

Determining factors for floor register

It is not as if floor registers don’t have their issues. The problem with floor registers is that they are placed on floors. This makes it very hard to place the furniture appropriately. Small furniture can be placed but if you place a big piece like a table, it will block the flow of air completely.

To solve this difficulty, you can get accessories. Magnetic plastic shields will enable the air to come out and ventilate from under the furniture.

Moving and fixing your register placement

If your house doesn’t have the proper placement which complements the climate, you should call upon a professional to change the placement and fix the issue. You can find many heat and air Tulsa specialists which will make the problem go away like it never existed.

Make sure you keep the cost of the procedure in mind. More often than not, such constructional changes will cost considerable money.
