There is nothing that says "luxury" like leather furniture. There is leather furniture that you can use in every room in your home, be it the living room, bedroom, family room, games room or the kitchen. This furniture can look great and last for years if it is well looked after. Before you get out the leather cleaner and protector have a read at the manufacturers guidelines and see what they recommend. There are some leathers that have not been treated to withstand water, so you can ruin your furniture if you use certain types of products to clean and protect the leather.
First of all you need to check to see if the leather has protection on it, to do this drip some water onto an area that no one else is going to see. If you see the water beading on the surface then it does have a protective layer on it, if it doesn’t then you need to choose a product made for this type of furniture. Next you need to vacuum your furniture so that you get rid of any loose dirt and debris, after than wipe down the surfaces with a slightly damp cloth to remove any excess dirt or stains. Then use a leather cleaner, following the directions set by the manufacturer precisely. Don’t ever use water on untreated leather, and never use a furniture polish on any leather. Both of these will damage the surface of the leather which cant be repaired.
Keep your leather looking great by keeping it away from any direct sunlight. Always clean up spills quickly and don’t use soap on the leather. Excessive moisture can damage even protected leather, so avoid getting the furniture too wet. Only take your furniture to a leather expert if it does get damaged and needs repaired. This should mean that your furniture will be treated the right way and wont be damaged any further. If it is cared for and maintained properly then your leather furniture can stay supple and looking its best for many years.
